MuseumDraws a Better World...
Recently Presented: MuseumDraw for People in Museums Today at Museums and the Web, 20th Annual Meeting, Los Angeles, April, 2016.
When the Rijksmuseum recently proposed that their visitors disengage from their mobiles to draw in museums, I saw an opportunity to act as a “Rainbow Bridge” to introduce MuseumDraw. MuseumDraw is a Meet-up Group Activity (with over 80 members), held twice weekly at Mia, that offers visitors a unique experience by demonstrating that mobile devices are an ideal drawing tool for people in museums today.
This Lightening Talk will highlight the beginning efforts of starting the Meet-up Group. Members will learn about my experience creating a relationship with a local mobile app company (Appikiko) to provide free software downloads for participants, the results of many who have learned to use their mobiles in museums beyond #Selfies to capture their experiences, the public learning new mobile and drawing skills, igniting art history in museums with new perspectives, and the joy of participants sharing their works with friends online.
We will explore the broadening reach that MuseumDraw has potentially influencing the public, and as a catalyst for new forms of museum education by enabling visitors to engage in future learning techniques by using mobile phones to draw art in museums today.

During the Museum Computer Network Annual Meeting in Minneapolis (2015), I took the initiative to form MuseumDraw. While drawing the Keynote speaker, Liz Ogbu, I captured her saying that we should creatively "cook together" - this thought was still in my head when I was approached by local app designer, Marta Snow, of Appikiko. She heard, from others at the conference, that I draw art history on my mobile. I had drawn at least 2000+ DrawArt digital drawings of art in museums with a self-designed iPad program, created with the help of Dr. Clement Shimizu of The Elumenati, and originally while playing Zynga's mobile game DrawSomething.
Marta asked me to try her new software. Her hope was that I could share her awesome app with the public. I agreed and thats when our "cooking together" started to happen... She even created a free iTunes App, "Doodles Ex" just for MuseumDraw! MuseumDraw uses my museum experience + her software to illustrate that "cooking together" is a smart and holistic practice in making friends, collaborating, sharing with others, and ultimately making the world better.
